In today's saturated job market, competition is tough with numbers of potential employees jostling for the exact same position. Emerging as an eye-catcher amongst the hundreds of conventional applications pouring seems daunting, but it is possible with a dash of innovation. Be bold and stand out from the masses by submitting a video resume! Instead of being stationary, a video resume enables you to showcase your personality and accent your content with non-verbal cues. You are socialising and engaging with your possible employer, enabling them to know you on a more intimate level. This also allows yourself to be showcased as a person with potential unique contributions, rather than to have these special traits reduced to monotone words on paper. Not only that, but the action of submitting a video resume itself is unusual and would reflect your sense of creativity along with technology. To create an effective video resume, a lot of information is received visually. Hence, it is vital to ensure a presentable outlook, complemented with an appropriate background for aesthetic appeal. Plan your lines such that they flow naturally, yet systematically. While the whole purpose of having a video resume is presenting a more authentic feel, it would be nothing short of a disaster if it digresses too much. If a script is prepared, do not read straight from it. It might contain history of your past work, but ideally give only a brief overview. Focus on only relevant experiences and on what you could achieve for the company in future. Doing something out of the norm can be daunting especially when it involves applying for a new job. However, at the same time, originality and confidence is also a trait that most employers look out for. Don’t be afraid to embrace yourself; implement the best abilities you can offer to the organisation by getting your creative juices flowing into the mix and start filming your video resume today!
